Why do teachers need to evaluate their students’ English?
The answer is very clear and it is to see clearly how they are progressing and whether there is some missing and wrong points or not. It does not matter whether it is an examination or not. However, we need to check their learning ability even only through observation during any activity in the classroom. What are your ideas? Let's share them:)
Thanks a lot...
So they can improve their teaching of course. How does a student arrive at B from A?
Evaluation gives students milestones.
Also, students need to be 'streamed' into the right level. A mixed level class is a tough proposition.
Just a few thoughts.
Also I think evaluating gives opportunities for positive feedback and reassurance to the student, so they can grow in confidence knowing that they are in the right track or understanding what they need to improve on.
Because it will make them work hard to get high grade.
At the end of each level there is a fixed examination to evaluate students and to make sure they are qualified enough to start a new lesson. Actually I am against those kinds of exams which a student should answer some questions and should write some answers in a piece of paper in an hour. Usually I tell them “I give you the exam and it is for me not for you, I want to test teaching result. I want to make sure you’ve understood everything and if you missed something, teach you that part again so be honest with me and do it aloneJ”
Evaluation is necessary to make sure the students are ready to learn new things but I prefer evaluating students during class activities not at a session named “the exam session”.
I agree with you.
It has happened so many times when I see some candidates who have passed the IELTS examination with flying colors but they fail to use their English in a real life. Why is that so? What's your idea?
